A few practical non-conference
details:
ÞClimate: The temperature at that time of year in
Spetses is approx. 28 C and we encourage informal dress. Dress lightly - even for the dinner, and for
the conference itself. The dinner
is likely to be held at an outdoor venue overlooking the sea with tables
set under frond umbrellas. Although still hot in September, we suggest a
light jacket for the evening.
ÞTransport around the Island: Dapia (Spetses town) is in the middle of
a 3 kilometres long shore line. The School is 1 kilometre outside Dapia
town along the sea road. The road around the Island is about 25km. Cars are
banned during high season but there are various small vehicles permitted
and the island is famous for its horse and cart transport. There are bikes
available for hire but the distances are not great around town and walking
can be a wonderful experience while you wander around the narrow lanes
(with no names) exploring the curio shops, boutiques, galleries, museums
and historical spots. You can also take an inexpensive water taxi for short
excursions.
ÞDining out: There
are many Tavernas throughout the town where you can eat good meals at any
time of the day or night..
